STRIKE!!!
We'll be striking the set 3:30-6:00p on Monday/Halloween, then 3:30p until we're done Tuesday, Nov 1. There's a choir concert on Thursday so we need things done by Tuesday. Cleanup/organize dressing rooms and organize costumes are also goals.
Strike, Videos and Cast Party
Welcome to blog post 50: The Finale
It's been a great few months, but our time together is now almost nearly kind of officially over. :(Alright enough sentimental stuff. I have three orders of business: Strike, DVDs of the play and the cast party
First, just as a reminder, Strike will be 3:30 - 6:00 Monday and 3:30 until we finish on Tuesday. This is again because there are events Wednesday and Thursday so we need to be done by Tuesday.
Second, we filmed the show last Saturday so if you're interested in getting your very own Metamorphoses DVD, please give Jim $10. If you want to use a check, make it out to "Friends of Lincoln: Drama". The Midas/Daughter moment will be edited in so that we have everything.
It did cost money to film, so we hope to be able to make that back from DVD sales.
Last order of business:
And I quote,
"Hello parents, cast, and crew!
The "unofficial" (as in not LHS sanctioned) cast party will be at our house: 5 SE 69th AVE, Portland, OR, 97215 (links to Google Maps - we are on the SE side).
Here's the essentials:
- It is an all-night party to celebrate Metamorphoses.
- No requirement to stay all night - but please send us a note or text if your student can leave on their own with your permission after midnight and before 7am.
- Please pick-up by 8:30am.
- Bring a sleeping bag and pillow if you plan on sleeping. A toothbrush if you plan on brushing.
- Hollie or Scott (the parentals) will provide responsible supervision.
- We will have snacks (see below for items you could help contribute if wanted).
- No drugs or alcohol
- Hollie's cell is 503-201-1062. Scott's cell is 503-201-0691. Kris (the student) is at 503-922-1724. Please feel free to call or text as needed.
We
will provide snacks, drinks, and breakfast foods. That said, if you
want to contribute here's a list. Please send back a quick email or text
to share your thinking and we can send a quick note back to confirm
(just in case multiple folks all want to buy a case of the Seagram's
Ginger Ale which we've learned is a vital part of this ritual!). Here
goes:
- Seagram's Ginger Ale
- Chips/popcorn/snacks
- Bagels
- Any other drinks
- Anything you get particularly inspired to share (Halloween related inspiration is welcomed)
We don't have any pets so allergies should not be an issue.
-Kris, Scott, and Hollie Nine"
-Kris, Scott, and Hollie Nine"
That's all folks. Hope it's been a great metamorphoses for everyone.

Notes 10/27
All - there wasn't talking backstage but there was an
unusual amount of bumping I thought. Let me know if we need more glow
tape.
Midas
Savita & Kris - Let's add a fight call for the Midas's daughter touch moment cause it's never in the light
Alcyone and Ceyx
Bilal - were you whispering to yourself during Alcyone & Ceyx's convo?
Michael - Try and speed up the Morpheus/sleep interaction a little (at least with the hood)
Erysichthon
Jared - Is there a better place you could put the coin so it doesn't fall out at the end?
Myrrha
Anabella - if you're waiting on someone to enter don't stop in the middle of your line - "to listen to my suggestion" can be finished before transition
Eros and Psyche
Props - is there something wrong with one of the candles on the candelabra? It's going in and out.
Carelle - I'm having trouble hearing "He forbids it"

Pick-up Update
Just to clarify, we'll meet in the auditorium at 3:30 for a company meeting so go there instead of immediately backstage or to the dressing rooms. Also, although we won't use most costumes, we will still run the show with significant costumes like Bowen's Vertumnus stuff so be prepared for that if you have an important costume piece. Pick-up will be a modified speed-through. We'll fill you in on what exactly that means tomorrow during the meeting.

Pick-up through Closing
Hope you're enjoying your days off. We have a pick-up rehearsal on Wednesday, which is our last time together before closing weekend *sniff*. We will have pick-up right after school so call time will be 3:30. This should give props and run enough time to set before we go at 4:00. Costumes are not necessary but props will be. If you signed up for the Space Between Us we'll leave straight from the run to go get dinner before the movie.
Thursday Friday and Saturday call times are 5:30 for tech and 6:00 for actors.
Also does anyone know a good house for the cast party? Volunteer your friends!

IMPORTANT: DRESS OPENING NIGHT
If you read this before you leave for school tomorrow morning please dress up in all your fancy clothes for opening day. We like to do this so people around the halls will say "Hey why are you dressed like that" and we can say "It's opening night for the play" and they'll be all like "Yeah but why are you wearing that" and you can be all like "I didn't have any actual fancy clothes so I wore a spongebob onesie" and they'll be like "why doesn't it have sleeves or a neck hole" and they you'll realize that you just taped a sponge to your stomach and even though you wanna beat yourself up for that lapse in observation you also feel kinda successful cause its making people ask about it you know?
Dress up tomorrow.
Friday wear your metamorphoses show shirt to school.
Monday come dressed as the flesh henchmen.
Maybe not the last one.
Unless you want to.
...
Please do it.

Notes 10/19
Notes:
ALL ACTORS: PLEASE REMOVE ALL JEWELRY AND ITEMS OF VALUE BEFORE YOU GO ONSTAGE!!!!!
Or alternatively, just give them to me and I’ll keep them - Ben
Midas:
- Conner: we need to hear “God of wine.”
- Ben notes that this is not actually a line but whatever just commit to it at this point
- Kris: make sure Savita is directly in gold light.
Alcyone and Ceyx:
- Artesia: Don’t get ready to run offstage before the henchmen get to you.
- Katherine: Project and articulate “and then turned again to her”.
Erysichthon:
- Gents: Song is getting better. Please try to work on it on your own time
- Bowen and Charlotte: Make the “Making her young again” section a bit faster.
Orpheus and Eurydice:
- Jared: Don’t start so close to Dov.
- Ryan: do not play with your veil on stage.
- Why is fabric basket on steps while Dov, Ryan, and Connor are walking.
- Dov, Ryan and Connor: Good work with timing.
- Ben also credits Lindsay for letting them get into position before the final narration
Pomona and Vertumnus:
- Bowen and Katherine: is there any way you can make putting on the dress faster?
- (Ben’s note) I love all the narrator/Vertumnus interaction
Phaeton:
- Bilal: remember lines
- (Ben’s note) Bilal: Project “Let me grant you a favor” a bit more so Michael can hear it. You’ve got most of them loud enough it's just this one that gets missed sometimes.
Eros and Psyche:
- Carelle: Make sure not to rush lines.
Baucis and Philemon:
- All actors: good job picking up cues.
- (Ben thinks the narrators could still have a tad smaller gap between them. You don’t have to wait for the other person to finish speaking before you start entering)
- Dov and Ryan: remember to keep moving forward until you say Farewell.
All actors: Curtain can be a little faster. (Ben thinks you should remember how fast you ran in 12-6-4 and do that)
All actors: please be quiet while in the halls.

- Bella: good job for grabbing the right fabric.
- Connor: Articulate “that’s a really bad Idea”.
- Connor: Have Savita walk off with you.

- Actors sitting on stage left: leave enough room so Bowen can walk.
- Clair and Michael: Pick up cues faster.
- Artesia: Lean forward and back like everyone else when you are rowing.
- Everyone: Make sure to remove ALL JEWELRY AND ITEMS OF VALUE before going onstage.
Erysichthon:

Orpheus and Eurydice:
- Artesia: Bring all black fabric up for the fates.

Notes 10/17
Hey guys, great run again. We had a little bump with some crew stuff but hopefully tomorrow we can start even earlier than 7. Like Sunday, get into costume when you're done eating and when everyone's ready we'll go. Anyways, on to tonight's run.
Notes:
All actors: even though there will be people backstage, do not rely on them to quiet you.
Opening:
- Actors on down stage left: make sure to face the audience on your side
Midas:
- Dov: remember to pick up gold fabric and put it in the basket.
- Alex: make “the people live forever” more clear.
- Savita: you need to enter immediately because we can see you gradually making your way onstage.
- Kris: after you turn your daughter into gold, make sure to tense up and be afraid. You look too relaxed.
Alcyone and Ceyx:
- All actors: do not say sorry if you run into someone onstage.
- Michael: Make sure to pull up your pants so we don’t see the leotard.
- Everyone: make bird movements more natural.
Erysichthon:
- Bilal: There should be a big penny in your bag to give to Erysichthon.
- Savita: as Pandora, Hold the box more steadily.
Orpheus and Eurydice:
- Ryan: you should have the veil on.
- Ryan: I don’t think people would smile if they were bitten by a snake.
- Artesia: Grab black fabric for fates to use.
- Denizens of the Underworld: More moaning! Bigger!
- People surrounding Ryan on final Farewell: make sure to surround Ryan on final farewell.
- Dov, Conner, and Ryan: Try to time the movement so that Ryan and Conner end up on the first platform of the bridge and Dov ends at the top.
- Dov: You can say your last line as you exit.
Pomona and Vertumnus:
- Prop note: We need to have a fishing rod for Bowen.
Myrrah:
- Bowen: Put hand over chest and groin when you say “I’m embarrassed”.
Phaeton:
- Bilal: Please enter a bit sooner.
- Crew note: stage must be swept/mopped enough to get off small pieces and dust.
- Michael: please project on song lines as well as song.
- Bilal: when you threw your tantrum, we could not understand a word of what you were saying.
- Michael: Make your facial expression that of an Italian Arts Singer, not someone who is constantly concerned.
- Charlotte: better pen drop this time.
Eros and Psyche:
- Bowen: Where are you with the fabric?
- Tucker: good job of covering
- Katherine: Articulate “How did they meet?”.
- Tucker: Look more surprised when you see Psyche.
Baucis and Philemon:
- All actors: where is the rest of the fabric?
- Ben and Connor: Make sure you have blankets before coming onstage. If you can’t find them, talk to Mr. Peerenboom.
- Ryan: put pieces of fabric down where Ben and Connor are sitting when the narrator says so.
- Ryan and Dov: When you are discussing what to wish for, it looks like Ryan is doing the talking. Share the dialogue.
- Annabella: Leave a beat before saying “walking down the street at night”.
- Rory and correll: make sure to face your corners.
- Kris: Don’t rely on crew to cue you. Or if you do, make sure they are competent crew.
- It’s ok to say because I wrote this one
- All actors: good job of making curtain faster.Anyone notice Noah has inconsistent bullet pointing? Or that he said please for the phaeton notes but not the other scenes? Fun little things like these are the kind of things you get to notice when you read all the way to the bottom! Congratulations to Jared and Bowen. They're the best at that.
Schedule Correction
Company is called 5:00 today, Tuesday, and Wednesday. Sorry I didn't realize we were getting fed these days. Come get free food!

Notes and Scheduling
Great job today everyone! I'm happy to say that I'm typing this post six minutes before we were supposed to get out today. Woo! Let's start with notes for the actors:
Everyone: If you have a monologue, make sure to address all sides of the audience.
I also got a note to let people know to be quiet backstage, so do that.
These are notes which I think got covered but here they are just in case. They were for the first bit.
Monday and Tuesday of this week will be dress rehearsals. Wednesday will be our preview night. Thursday we open. Friday and Saturday we have shows. Here's how that's gonna work.
Actors
Actors are called tomorrow through Wednesday at 6:00. If you already know you will need longer than that to prepare, come earlier. (We're going at 7 these days just to be clear.) Keep the time before that open if necessary just in case Jim or I need to work something that I've forgotten about, but for the most part you should be good to show up at 6:00 these days.
On Thursday I believe there will be a company dinner, so show up at 5:00 for that.
For other show nights, keep showing up at 6:00 (Again, unless you know your costume/make-up usually takes longer).
Remember to check your props and come to me or a crew member if you think something is misplaced or you have any relevant questions.
Crew
First of all, we have a job that will happen right after school Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday that we will need all of crew for. You might have noticed we're missing a few seats in the risers. 37 seats. So each day, right after school, we will go into the band room and borrow every seat they have. All 37 of them. Lucky us. This won't take too long and if everyone helps to carry a few chairs we should get this done in 10 min each day.
The following crew members are called for dress and show nights: Lydia, Barrett, Ava, Hillary, Sammy, Riley, Ethan, Emma, Chani, Katie, Ivy*. Just to be clear other crew members are also welcome to hang with us before the show on show nights. We like to bond a little bit in very non-cultish ways before the show sometimes.
*Ivy I need you here to run house manager stuff but since Monday and Tuesday have no audience I don't think you'll need to be here those days.
Please show up at 5:30 (half an hour before the actors) to set stuff up before they ruin it with their grubby little hands... It's ok for me to say that they don't read the crew parts trust me. If an actor reads this send me a picture I dare you.
Still show up at 5:00 Thursday for dinner. It's free food why not.
For dress/show night crew: Prop/run people you will be in charge of setting props and the stage each night. Check every candle to make sure its working and if not, repair and replacement supplies are in the cage. Light that glow tape. Costume crew do whatever it is you do that I have been keeping out of. Whoever I feel like picking on will sweep the stage. Also if some crew members would like to assist with make-up for some of the more helpless actors that would be nice. After the show, I'll need you guys to strike the stage, return props to the prop closet, and help bring back the chairs to the band room.*
*Not Fridays for the chair stuff
Notes
All actors: if you need a costume placed back stage, you can ask a costume crew member because they want to place them themselves.
Midas:
- Conner: we need to hear you say “a gift”.
- Kris: Make sure you are positioned so gold light will shine on Savitha.
- Katherine: don’t hide chimes.
Alcyone and Ceyx:
- Carelle: be on time for sailor entrance.
- Michael: make sure you take off your hood right before Ben says “very good”.
- Claire: Put pause in between both “No Goods”.
- Claire: immediately hold fabric like a lantern as soon as you get it.
- Claire: Put something in your hair so you don’t mess with it.
- Kris: work on your pitch
Erysichthon:
- Jared: Walk around the fallen tree as in speaks to you.
- Ana: Good Physicalization.
- Tucker: You don’t always have to be moving. You should stand your ground sometimes.
- Bowen: We like you putting the blue fabric over your arm like a waiter.
- Jared: Make “Leaning in to eat your foot” bigger.
- Jared: Pull up your pant leg to get to your foot.
Orpheus and Eurydice:
- Fates: Find a way to have black fabric as Orpheus enters the underworld.
- This one’s my B. I didn’t make this clear enough to the actors but the reason you guys have that black fabric at the beginning is so that in this scene after Artesia sets the basket down you guys can reach in and grab some black fabric to play with as denizens. You can wear it, torment them with it, whatever.
- Denizens of the underworld: More moaning.
- Kris, Savitha, Charlotte, and Ryan: See Mr. Peerenboom about last “farewell”.
- Everyone in second part of this play: Project!
- Conner: Make going down steps more even.
Vertumnus:
- Bowen and Katherine: Practice getting dress on together.
- Bowen : Articulate on granny monologue.
Myrrah:
- Ana: Make wafting away suitors more bold.
- Ana: Make the realization that you’re Cinyras’ daughter bigger.
- Ana: Make sure not to sit with your knees together, bent, and in front of you because the audience can see up your dress.
Phaeton:
- Charlotte: Make pen drop bigger.
Eros and Psyche:
- Carelle: Pick up cues.
- Tucker and Artesia: Make the first time seeing each other longer.
- Tucker: We liked how you wrapped your arm around Psyche as she says her line.
Baucis and Philemon:
- Connor and Ben: You should have blankets as you enter on stage.
- Dov and Ryan: Bundle black fabric and put it with the rest of the pile.
- Everyone: We will be taking labels off the fabrics.
- On this note also we realized in crew that putting the fabrics in person specific places is probably not going to work at this point because we are unsure of which is who’s. They will still all be laid out on that row but will no longer be arranged by name. Look for yours
- Narrators: Face the audience more when on bridge of the gods.
- Dov and Ryan: Make it look like you are talking to each other when you are deciding on what to wish for.
Curtain:
- Myrrah and Lindsay: make sure to be at the bottom of the stairs before you start bowing.
- Everyone: you should make this whole thing faster.
Everyone: If you have a monologue, make sure to address all sides of the audience.
I also got a note to let people know to be quiet backstage, so do that.
More Notes
Midas:
- Savitha: Don’t stop bouncing the ball.
- Katherine: make the chimes louder.
Alcyone and Ceyx:
- Gold basket should be on stage left and blue on stage right.
- Clair: need orange or red for fabric as lantern
- gents: be on pitch.
Erysichthon:
- bowen: make sure to cover charlotte in fabric.
- jared: lean in slowly to eat foot
Orpheus and Eurydice:
- leave enough fabric for both sides.
Velrtumnus:
- Katherine: start narration while entering.
Myrrah:
- scarf will be light blue but less fuzzy
Baucis and Philemon:
- Dov and Bella (Ryan): keep moving your arms past each other until you say farewell.

Also improv club is Tuesday Wednesday and Thursday next week during lunch in the auditorium. Be there or be kicked out of the show. Kidding. But it's fun trust me.
